Departments of the college of grassland agriculture

The college of grassland agriculture consists of two departments: the department of grassland science and the department of grassland engineering.

1 Department of Grassland Science

The department of Grassland Science  have 13 faculty members including three professors, nine associate professors, and one lecturer. Three of  them are  doctoral supervisors, and nine are master's supervisors. One has been selected as the member of the discipline assessment group of the state council, one as the vice-director of the Undergraduate Teaching Guidance Committee of Grassland Science, one as the manager of the experimental station of the forage industry technology system, one as "Sanqin Scholar" of Shaanxi Province, one as Baogang outstanding teacher and  one  as a"Star teacher" of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration. One faculty member was selected for "Young Talents Program", two faculty members as "My Favorite Teacher", and one as "Teacher Moral Pacesetter". Our teaching, research, and technology dissemination works include forage germplasm resources and stress biology, forage physiology and cultivation technology, forage breeding and seed science, forage products and grass-livestock systems. Our undergraduate courses are forage and fodder crop cultivation, forage breeding, forage product processing, forage seed science, pasture management, etc.

2 Department of Grassland Engineering

The department has 13 faculty members, including three professors, eight associate professors, and two lecturers. Among them one is selected for Youth talent of forestry and grassland science and technology innovation of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, and one for "Young Talents Program" of our university. The research group on “the establishment and management of sustainable forest and grass system” has been selected as the innovation team of National Forestry and Grass Administration.

The department of grassland engineering is established on the basis of the department of grassland science. Our research priorities focus on  grassland ecology and management, turfgrass physiology and ecology, and turfgrass molecular breeding. To meet the requirements of the ecological environment management and forage industry development in China,  our research activities mainly focuses on grassland ecosystem restoration and ecosystem function regulation, grassland productivity improvement and appropriate use, the response of typical grassland ecosystems to climate change, and the dynamic monitoring and management of grassland resources. To serve the strategic deployment of national and regional ecological construction, and meet the demands of the lawn industry, we carry out studies on the collection and utilization of turfgrass germplasm resources, turfgrass stress biology, turfgrass molecular breeding, the construction and management of lawn and greenfield, the turf construction and management in sports grounds and gardens, and the restoration and management of urban and rural ecological environments. The main courses for undergraduates are general ecology, grassland informatics, grassland cultivation, grassland resources survey and planning, and turfgrass science.
